Transportation planning is an important portion of eKON’s work. Our approach is a direct extension of eKON's overall attitude to planning and urban design as a critical first step to assure successful projects. We approach transportation projects not only as a technical problem of laying out the most efficient facilities but from the point of view of maximizing the benefit of the transportation facilities to specific land developments and the city as a whole.

We plan transportation and land use as interdependent functions:

Transportation planning is always related to land use implications, while land use planning is always balanced with transportation and circulation needs. Our designs maximize the benefits of transit investment to the community: Linking the transit facilities to major activity centers is important to maximize patronage and maximize the positive impact of transit facilities on community renewal and land development. To achieve this we often create urban design framework plans to establish standards for zoning and circulation in areas near transit facilities.

Our work is geared to achieving consensus of all project participants:

Our approach to consensus-building is a function of clear communication between all parties, openness to community and public sector input, clear response to that input, and a logical, imaginative and where appropriate innovative design process.

We design for high level of aesthetic and visual quality: Our work provides an aesthetically pleasing design consistent with the qualities of the site, the immediate area, and the city as a whole.

We minimize environmental impacts:

We are highly responsive to community concerns about noise, safety, visual impacts, maintaining the integrity of housing districts, buffering and similar issues. We provide a thorough technical/environmental analysis which meets all criteria of technical competence. Our designs deliberately incorporate elements which reduce or eliminate identified environmental impacts.

We work in close coordination with technical consultants:

We are used to working as in integrated team with the many technical specialists needed to plan a transportation project, including civil and transportation engineers, economists, operations specialists, and environmental analysts. eKON’s architectural and financial analysis divisions are often incorporated into transportation projects. Local consultants are used wherever appropriate
